Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies. -- Oliver Goldsmith

Are women...

Lie- 1. a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; and intentional untruth; a falsehood. 2. something intended or serving to convey a false impression; imposture. 3. an inaccurate or false statement. 4. the charge or accusation of lying. 5. to speak falsely or utter untruth knowingly, as with intent to deceive. 6. convey a false impression. 7. to bring about or affect by lying: to lie oneself out of a difficulty; one who is accustomed to lying his/her way out of difficulties.

No matter how you look at it, a lie is still a lie. Most of us have told a lie at one time in our life. We are not guiltless, but there is a difference when a lie is so deep that it destroys others lives, health, well being, and futures.

If you look  back to the beginning of time. Eve deceived Adam in the Garden of Eden.  Deceiving someone is the same as lying to them.  By eating from the Tree of Knowledge in a sense it opened up the world for sin. While I am not a preacher, I do believe that this is where lying first began.

What is the difference between a sociopath, a compulsive, a pathological, a chronic, or an habitual liar? A Sociopath is basically a person who lies continually for along time without stopping in order to get their way and does so with little concern for others.  These types of liars are very goal-oriented. They lie to get their way. Sociopaths don’t care about others feelings or rights. These type of liars are very charming, manipulative, and self-centered.

A Compulsive Liar lies out of habit. This type of lying usually occurs in childhood, due in part to the child being placed in a situation where lying was necessary. For these types of liars, lying is their normal way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small. By lying, they feel bigger and better. For the most part, compulsive liars are not overly manipulative, rather they simply lie out of habit. The terms pathological liar, habitual liar, and chronic liar are often used to refer to a compulsive liar.

I think it is fair to say that most of us either know someone like these liars above or have been their victim. Either way, the outcome was not good.

Lying has no boundaries. It is not defined by standards, morals, classes, money etc. The rich lie, as well as the poor. Some get away with it and some pay a price for their lies. It is pretty bad when you can Google a list of liars and see familiar names on it. This is what I found when I did my search:
Famous Liars http://www.healthdiaries.com/famous-liars.html

There are a few new ones that need to be added to this list. O.J. Simpson and Casey Anthony. They top the list as the two liars that got away with murder. I will let you be the judge on this one.  I do know that liars like to hang out with other liars. So, maybe the two of them will become best friends. I do know this much in the end….they will have to answer to God for the things they have done.

Lying hurts and can do so much damage to a person. It can cost you your job, livelihood, friendship, marriage etc. Once you speak it, you either have to keep telling the same lie over and over, or create a bigger lie to cover the same one that you just told. Any way you look at it, in the end you are the bigger fool.

This BBC article sums up what lying is all about. It is a must read.  Please see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/lying/lying_1.shtml

Birds of a feather…flock together.

  1. When I was a child, I would lie to get out of trouble. I don't lie anymore. In fact, I'm told that I am too honest sometimes. This is a great post! =D
