Midnight

(Week #9-Midnight)

?

?

As I sat alone in the hotel room waiting for the clock to strike midnight, I couldn’t help but notice the shadows on the street below. It was strange to see so many people out on a Thursday night. I had been waiting forever for my love to come home from the Army. Months turned into years and I prayed that my dreams were not in vain.

It is hard when the one you love is gone for such along time. I found it hard to still picture his face with those dazzling blue eyes. Everything in our relationship always seemed to happen at midnight. When he left to go over seas it was at midnight. When he proposed to me…it was at midnight. Now, after waiting for over a year, he was finally coming home once again at midnight.

I couldn’t wait any longer, so I decided to go down to the lobby and look for him. It was five minutes until midnight and my nerves were on end. I was praying he would show up and whisk me off my feet once again. That this time he would never leave me. Hoping that we would be together forever as man and wife.

Sitting at the bar, I had the bartender bring me a martini. I needed something to help calm my nerves. As the clock ticked closer to midnight, I heard a quarter clink into the jukebox and then I heard this song….

In The Midnight Hour……….Wilson Pickett

I'm gonna wait till the midnight hour
That's when my love comes tumbling down
I'm gonna wait till the midnight hour
When there's no one else around
I'm gonna take you girl and hold you
And do all the things I told you
In the midnight hour
Yes I am
Ooh yes I am
One more thing I just want to say right here

I'm gonna wait till the stars come out
And see that twinkle in your eyes
I'm gonna wait till the midnight hour
That’s when my love begins to shine
You're the only girl I know
That can really love me so
In the midnight hour
Oh yeah ..In the midnight hour
Yeah, alright, play it for me one time

***horn solo***

I’m gonna wait till midnight hour
That’s when my love comes tumbling down
I’m gonna wait, way in the midnight hour
That’s when my love begins to shine
Just you and I…Ooh Baby
Just you and I
Nobody around baby, Just, you and I
I’m gonna hold you, In my arms….

As the clock chimed out 12 chimes, I turned slowly and exactly at midnight my love met me in the lobby with roses and a smile. I guess each day at midnight I will always be reminded of the sweetness of the one I love. Who says love can’t be found in the midnight hour?
